The food guru serves it up green

She's the groovy, green guru of vegetarian food in Bellingen and she's busy cooking up a quiet revolution when it comes to ethical eating.

She's Amy Macrae, who along with her team at Guru Food wants to put the environmental movement onto the plates of her customers.

“There's so much talk about what we can do but it's more important to actually start doing it, even in the smallest ways,” Amy says.

Guru Food evolved from Amy's catering business and working with OzGREEN.

“Taking the step into a restaurant was scary but I wanted to show how great local produce can taste.”

The scene in Church Street grew organically from there.

“Now we are a core staff of six, open seven days until late because ... people don't all eat at the same time.”

The menu is short and sweet, napkins are cloth, cleaning products are mainly vinegar and soda bicarb, sauces don't come from cans and there is plenty of room for prams in the lounge area.
