Youth Leading the World Congress (YLTW)
OzGREEN supports Youth Facilitators to organise and facilitate empowering youth leadership and sustainability congresses in their local region.
Local and Global Challenges: Participants workshop the “Pulse of the Planet” learning and discussing local and global sustainability challenges such as water, energy, food and biodiversity. They look at their own eco-footprint and create visions for a more sustainable community. This day is about coming to terms with the depth of these challenges.
Be the Change: Participants brainstorm ideas for change with a workshop called “One Planet Living Plan”. They discuss and workshop social innovations for sustainability, share ideas with other YLTW locations and hear inspiring stories of change. They then begin their own action planning to achieve their sustainable visions.
Begin it Now: Participants facilitate their own Youth-led Community Forum for local Government and businesses, parents, teachers, principals and the public. Being designed and run by youth the idea is for them to get buy in for their projects and begin achieving their sustainability goals.
Comment from Participant:
Attending my first congress sparked a huge change in my life. I became more conscious of community and more conscious of the world. I really feel that I have my experience with YLTW to thank for my scholarship and also in helping me to decide on what I wanted to study. After the 2013 YLTW congress, I knew I wanted to work to improve the environment for the rest of my life.
YLTW improves your interpersonal skills so much. It builds confidence, public speaking skills and makes you much more aware and more sensitive to people. It provides a fantastic environment, giving young people the confidence to go out and speak to people, politicians and schools, to make real changes!
