On the 22nd – 23rd March 2016, a Youth Leading the World (YLTW) Facilitator training was run at the Katoomba Cultural Centre. The training forms part of a youth congress project called Project Now, a project run by young people in the Blue Mountains, for young people in the Blue Mountains. A 3 day youth congress is planned for September in the Blue Mountains and will be for young people aged 12 to 20 years.
Jenny Hill from Blue Mountains City Council commented that the facilitator training was very inspiring.
“We all came away inspired and excited about the congress.” She said “It was very beneficial for all of us to have had the experience and we now have a shared understanding about directions and processes for our congress.”
The facilitator training was held as a partnership between the Blue Mountains City Council (BMCC) and OzGreen, where BMCC organised the venue & logistics and the training was run by OzGreen facilitators, Sue Lennox and Lena Hammond. Funding support came from a grant that BMCC have procured through the Youth Opportunities Program, Family and Community Services, NSW.
The facilitator training was attended by BMCC Youth Council, BMCC staff, one external consultant, one Western Sydney university PhD student and two on-line – one from Darwin and one from the Central Coast in NSW.
BMCC will be sending more BMCC youth council members to the facilitator training to be held in Sydney 21-22 June 2016.
