About Us

OzGREEN is an environmental charity founded in 1992 on a mission to create connected, regenerative and resilient communities.

We know that a healthy environment and community wellbeing are essential ingredients for this.

Our Committee provides governance, strategic direction and oversight and brings expertise across education, environment, business, finance, community development and governance.

We define sustainability holistically.

(as a balance of human, social, economic and environmental vitality).

From this holistic definition,

we strategically work across five pillars.

Our Five Pillars

  • Ignite STEM

We understand the need for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) to solve the complex environmental challenges of the future. We ignite STEM participation for those under-represented in STEM through our landmark event, the ‘STEM Conference for Regional Girls’,

  • Citizen Science

We deliver citizen science (CS) initiatives that monitor river health and air quality, protecting the natural environment by gathering data to guide action. We run the renowned river health citizen science programs, the ‘Macro Muster’ and the ‘Bellingen Riverwatch Water Quality Monitoring Program’.

  • Plant Trees

We enhance biodiversity and ecosystem resilience by planting indigenous species in partnership with local communities. We coordinate community tree planting projects to engage people in revegetating the environment. connecting people with the environment and each other.

  • Reduce Waste

We understand the vastness of the waste issues facing our planet today. We promote sustainability and the circular economy through workshops, community and in-school programs that reduce waste, encourage responsible resource use and empower community-led action.

  • Foster Wellbeing

We know that strong, connected individuals and communities are the foundation for environmental stewardship. We build capacity, motivation, connection to nature and social connection, and address impacts of environmental degradation in developing countries.

We run targeted programs to support people, communities and the environment.

Why Our Mission?

  • Why connected?

Strong relationships within communities foster trust, collaboration, and a shared sense of purpose. When people feel connected to one another, they are more likely to work together to solve local challenges, care for each other, and take collective action.

  • Why regenerative?

Regenerative goes beyond sustainability. Sustainable aims to maintain the status quo, but many systems - ecological, social, and economic - are already in crisis. Regeneration goes further: it’s about restoring, renewing and healing - replenishing what’s been lost and creating the conditions for life to thrive.

  • Why resilient?

A resilient community is one where people are connected, supported, and empowered. Our programs and events foster relationships, leadership, community capacity and shared purpose, which are all key ingredients for bouncing back from adversity.
